Neighborhoods
Coastal community on the northern shore. The village sits above coves and sandstone bluffs, with shops along Girard Avenue and Prospect Street, and houses on the hills between the water and Mount Soledad.
Beach neighborhood between Mission Bay and La Jolla. Garnet Avenue and Mission Boulevard hold the shops, with the boardwalk, Crystal Pier, and the bay park along the edges. Streets mix cottages, low-rise condos, and apartments.
Central neighborhood along University Avenue and El Cajon Boulevard. Residential blocks are mostly Craftsman bungalows and Spanish Revival houses, with Balboa Park along the southern edge and a busy commercial street running north and south.
Peninsula between the bay and the ocean. Shelter Island and the yacht basin line the bay, Cabrillo National Monument marks the southern tip, and Liberty Station occupies the former naval training center. Homes range from bay-view condos to houses on the ridge.
Neighborhood on the north side of Balboa Park, centered on University Avenue and Fifth Avenue. A walkable commercial core sits among bungalows, courtyard apartments, and condominium buildings, with the medical center campus nearby.
Northern community between the coast and inland canyons. Streets are mostly detached houses and townhomes, with a commercial core at Del Mar Highlands and open-space corridors through the canyons.
